What is in Vanilla Almond Flour Scones?

Provision House Strawberry Rhubarb Jam: Our house-made strawberry rhubarb jam adds a burst of sweet and tangy flavour to both the whipped butter and the scones, enhancing their overall taste.

Salted Butter: The butter adds richness and creaminess to the whipped butter, creating a smooth and luxurious texture. For a vegan option, you can substitute with plant-based butter.

Blanched Almond Flour: Almond flour serves as the base for these gluten-free scones, imparting a delicate nutty flavor and a moist, tender texture.

Baking Soda: Baking soda helps the scones rise and achieve a light and fluffy texture.

Kosher Salt: Salt enhances the flavor of the scones and balances the sweetness of the other ingredients.

Extra Large Egg: The egg acts as a binding agent, helping to hold the scone dough together and providing structure.

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract adds a warm and aromatic flavor to the scones, enhancing their overall taste.

Ground Cinnamon: Cinnamon adds a hint of warmth and spice to the scones, complementing the sweetness of the other ingredients.

Maple Syrup: Maple syrup adds natural sweetness to the scones, providing a rich and caramel-like flavour.

Products used in the Vanilla Almond Flour Scones

Can I use regular flour instead of almond flour for the scones?

While almond flour is essential for the gluten-free nature of these scones, you can experiment with other gluten-free flour alternatives such as coconut flour or a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend. However, keep in mind that the texture and flavor may vary.

Can I make the scones ahead of time and freeze them?

Yes, you can prepare the scone dough ahead of time, shape them into rounds, and freeze them on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag or container and store for up to 1 month. When ready to bake, simply place the frozen scones on a baking sheet and bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.

Is there a substitute for butter in the whipped butter recipe?

If you prefer a dairy-free or vegan option, you can substitute the salted butter with a plant-based butter alternative. Look for a variety that is suitable for whipping to achieve the desired light and airy texture. Additionally, you can experiment with coconut oil or vegan margarine, keeping in mind that the flavour and texture may differ slightly.
